Where does the name come from?

The station and district are named after a vanished farm on Abcouderstraatweg. That farm in turn took its name from the Reyghersbosch, a medieval wood on this spot.

The story

Seven years as a station in no man's land

Reigersbos was there before its passengers. The structural shell was finished in 1975, but the station then stood in an empty plain for seven years. Only on 27 August 1982 did the Gein line start carrying passengers here, and since 28 May 1997 orbital line 50 has called as well.

The station sits on an embankment with a viaduct over Reigersbosdreef. East of it the metro runs over the shopping centre and then straight through an office building. In 2004 the concrete east hall was demolished and rebuilt in steel and glass, designed by Zwarts & Jansma, as part of the MetroMorfose programme. That programme was then halted because costs at Ganzenhoef station had spiralled. The west hall got a more modest makeover with tiles and better lighting.

Another renovation followed in 2018. Since then the station name has appeared in tilework on the walls, in a typeface by designer René Knip.
