The story
Line 53's first stop in Zuidoost
Venserpolder is the first stop in Zuidoost for anyone leaving the city on line 53. The station opened in October 1977, when Amsterdam's metro carried its first passengers, and lies between Van der Madeweg and Diemen Zuid.
Line 53, also known as the Gaasperplas line, replaced bus route 56. It is 11.7 kilometres long with 14 stations. It starts underground in the inner city, surfaces alongside the national railway and, after Duivendrecht, follows its own largely elevated route through Zuidoost to the Gaasperplas.
Change is coming for the neighbourhood. Under a decision taken in November 2025, lines 50 and 53 are to be merged. Passengers from this area will then have to change at Van der Madeweg to reach the centre, and that stop is being upgraded for the purpose, including a waiting area.
Line 53 is 11.7 kilometres long with 14 stations, from Centraal Station to Gaasperplas.
