Is parking in Amsterdam really that expensive, or is it not so bad by comparison?

Okay, let's get straight to the answer: parking on the street in Amsterdam is indeed expensive. Even compared with other cities in Europe, our city tops the league table. It could have something to do with the policy of keeping cars out of the city, but if you choose to park in the Bijenkorf department store garage instead, for example, you will still easily be paying 8 euros an hour during the day.

Electric frontrunner

Alongside this negative ranking, there is also a very positive one to report: we are miles ahead when it comes to the number of charging points for electric cars. At the moment the city already has around 3,700 public and 4,100 private charging points. And we keep growing steadily. The city council expects that by around 2030 we will need 82,000 of them to meet demand. Around that same year, incidentally, cars with exhaust emissions are expected to be banned from the city altogether.
